Current Texas Assessments
STAAR Preparation for Grades 3–8 and High-School EOC Tests
STAAR measures how well students have learned and can apply the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS, for the tested grade, subject, or course.
Grades 3–8
Reading Language Arts and Mathematics assessments are administered across grades 3–8. Grade-level preparation can focus on the standards and skills most relevant to the student’s current course.
Science & Social Studies
Science assessments are administered in grades 5 and 8, while Social Studies is assessed in grade 8. Preparation emphasizes content understanding, vocabulary, evidence, and application.
High-School EOC Assessments
Current STAAR end-of-course assessments include Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History.
Families should confirm current testing requirements, dates, and accommodations with their school and the Texas Education Agency.
Subject-Specific Support
Target the Standards Behind the Questions
Preparation is most useful when practice reveals exactly which academic skills need instruction or reinforcement.
STAAR Math
Number sense, operations, proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking, geometry, data analysis, problem solving, and course-specific skills.
Explore Math Tutoring →Reading Language Arts
Reading comprehension, vocabulary in context, analysis, revision, editing, written response, and using evidence from a text.
Science
Grade-appropriate scientific concepts, academic vocabulary, data interpretation, models, investigations, and evidence-based reasoning.
Social Studies
Historical and civic knowledge, primary and secondary sources, maps, charts, cause and effect, and evidence-based conclusions.
Algebra I EOC
Linear, quadratic, and exponential relationships; equations and inequalities; functions; graphs; modeling; and problem solving.
English, Biology & U.S. History EOC
Targeted review can address course standards, comprehension, constructed responses, content gaps, and test-taking decisions.
A Focused Preparation Process
Turn Test Results and Practice Into a Teaching Plan
Review the Starting Point
Use available score reports, classroom work, teacher feedback, and targeted practice to identify priorities.
Teach the Missing Skills
Explain concepts clearly and rebuild prerequisite knowledge that may be limiting progress.
Practice Application
Work through standards-aligned questions, written responses, and multi-step problems with feedback.
Measure and Adjust
Review errors and progress so the plan continues to focus on the student’s most important needs.
Online Assessment Familiarity
Practice More Than Multiple-Choice Questions
STAAR is administered online and includes technology-enhanced items. Reading Language Arts and selected other assessments also include short or extended constructed responses.
Technology-Enhanced Items
Students can become more comfortable interpreting and responding to online item formats without letting the interface distract from the academic task.
Constructed Responses
Preparation can include organizing ideas, answering the entire prompt, supporting a response with evidence, and reviewing written work.
Released and Sample Questions
When appropriate, tutoring can use official released or sample materials to help students understand current expectations and question styles.

State Standards Tutoring for Students Outside Texas
Matheaze can also help families prepare for other standards-based state assessments. Because requirements vary by state, grade, and school year, the plan begins with the student’s current standards and official assessment information.
Share the Current Standards
Families can provide the state, grade, subject, assessment name, score report, school resources, or official testing information.
Identify Priority Skills
Tutoring focuses on the concepts and skills the student has not yet mastered instead of attempting to cover every standard equally.
Build Transferable Skills
Reading carefully, reasoning with evidence, solving multi-step problems, explaining thinking, and reviewing work support success across assessments.
Who We Help
Preparation Matched to the Student’s Situation
Students Rebuilding Foundations
Address unfinished learning and prerequisite skills while continuing to support current grade-level work.
Students Seeking Higher Performance
Refine reasoning, accuracy, written responses, and performance on more challenging standards and question types.
Students Needing Test Confidence
Develop a predictable approach to directions, pacing, difficult questions, review, and managing uncertainty.
Students Preparing for EOC Tests
Review course-specific standards while correcting gaps that may have accumulated earlier in the course sequence.
Purposeful Progress
Use Assessment Information to Guide the Next Step
STAAR and other state assessment reports can help families identify strengths and areas that may need continued support. Tutoring should connect those results to concrete instruction—not simply repeat practice tests.
Skill-Level Priorities
Break broad performance categories into specific concepts, standards, and habits that can be taught and practiced.
Regular Feedback
Review errors, explanations, written work, and practice patterns to decide what the student should work on next.
Independent Learning
Teach students how to analyze a problem, choose a strategy, check their work, and learn from mistakes.
Texas Assessment Update
Texas Testing Requirements Are Changing
The Texas Education Agency has announced that the Student Success Tool will replace STAAR beginning with the 2027–28 school year. Matheaze will align future preparation with the current assessment and standards in effect for each student’s testing year.
